Senior Manager – Office of the CFO | Manchester | Hybrid | 3 days in office

If you're an accountant who wants to do more than produce the numbers, this could be the move you've been waiting for.

I'm working on an opportunity for an experienced ACA/ACCA-qualified accountant to join a growing Office of the CFO team in Manchester.

This isn't another traditional accounts role where your biggest achievement is getting the month-end finished on time.
You'll be working directly with CFOs, Finance Directors and business owners, helping them understand their numbers, improve performance, plan for growth and make better commercial decisions.

In short — you'll be much closer to the decision-making.

What you'll be doing
You'll take ownership of a diverse client portfolio and act as a genuine finance adviser, with responsibility for:
  • Building trusted relationships with CFOs, Finance Directors and business owners
  • Reviewing management accounts, statutory accounts and financial reporting
  • Providing commercial insight rather than simply reporting the numbers
  • Advising on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and financial planning
  • Supporting businesses with outsourced finance and CFO services
  • Overseeing audit liaison and accounting compliance
  • Identifying opportunities to grow existing client relationships
  • Working with specialists across the wider business to deliver joined-up solutions
  • Leading, mentoring and developing Managers, Assistant Managers and junior team members
  • Helping shape the continued growth of the Office of the CFO offering
You'll also have a genuine opportunity to influence how the team develops and play an important role in the future direction of the Manchester practice.

What they're looking for

  • ACA or ACCA qualified
  • Strong technical accounting background
  • Experience gained within practice, ideally Business Services, Accounts or Advisory
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients
  • Confident dealing with senior stakeholders and building long-term relationships
  • Experience leading and developing teams
  • Commercially minded with a genuine interest in helping businesses grow
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience in outsourced finance, CFO Services or working with SME/mid-market businesses would be a bonus
Why consider it?
  • 3 days a week in the Manchester office
  • Move beyond traditional accounting into strategic finance and advisory
  • Direct exposure to CFOs, Finance Directors and business owners
  • Genuine opportunity to become a trusted adviser
  • Leadership responsibility with plenty of autonomy
  • Exposure to ambitious businesses across different sectors
  • Opportunity to help build a growing and strategically important service line
  • Clear progression towards Director level
  • Real opportunity to develop and mentor the next generation of finance professionals
If you're an experienced accountant who's starting to think "there must be more to my career than reviewing another set of accounts", this could be worth a conversation.

I'm particularly keen to hear from people who enjoy the commercial side of finance, client relationships and problem-solving as much as the technical accounting.

Applicants must have unrestricted right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not available.
