A state chartered depository institution built specifically for digital assets is standing up its risk function from scratch. The bank sits at the intersection of fiat and crypto, serving hedge funds, money managers, multi family offices, and broker dealers who need a regulated bridge between the two worlds.
The institution is backed by a public company parent following a recently signed acquisition agreement, and it's entering a build phase with real capital behind it to stand up the team and the platform from zero.
They need a Chief Risk Officer who wants to build a risk function, not step into one that already exists.
What you'll own:
- Design and implement risk processes, workflows, and procedures. Policies are largely in place already, so the job is taking them down to the procedure level
- Build out AML/BSA, KYC, and the digital asset specific layer most CROs haven't had to touch: know-your-transaction, know-your-wallet, and the operational risk of irreversible on-chain movement
- Work directly with the technology team as the core banking platform gets customized and integrated. This is a hands-on build, not a governance seat
- Act as a key point of contact for regulators, starting at the state level and building toward a future federal relationship
- Sit on a small, senior founding leadership team (Risk, Ops, Technology, Finance) shaping the institution's risk posture from day one
- Strong risk management background. Financial crimes and compliance experience is valuable but not required if paired with genuine risk depth
- Comfortable operating at both strategic and highly detailed levels in a startup environment
- Prior experience as a primary point of contact with regulators
- Some exposure to or strong interest in digital asset risk is a plus
- Digital asset industry experience preferred but not required for the right risk background
- Remote with travel considered
- Competitive base salary, flexible for the right profile, plus public company equity with a short vesting period, an additional incentive tied to standing up the bank within a defined timeframe, health benefits, and 401(k)
- Backed by the capital and infrastructure of a public parent company, without losing the zero to one build experience
