R&D Tax Technical Consultant (Engineer / Scientist)
Location: Scotland (hybrid)
Level: Advisor / Assistant Manager
Are you an engineer or scientist looking for a new direction?
A well-established professional services firm is growing its R&D tax practice and wants someone with a technical background. You don’t need tax experience. What matters is that you understand how things are built, tested and improved, and that you can explain it clearly.
The role
- Interview clients’ engineers and scientists to understand their development projects and the technical challenges behind them
- Assess projects against R&D tax relief criteria, with full training and support
- Write clear, well-evidenced technical narratives for R&D tax claims
- Review technical documentation such as designs, test results, reports and specifications
- Work alongside tax and finance specialists to deliver claims accurately and on time
- Build strong client relationships across a wide range of sectors and technologies
About you
- You have a degree, apprenticeship or equivalent experience in engineering, science or another technical discipline
- You have hands-on experience in an engineering, technology or R&D environment
- You’re curious and comfortable asking technical professionals the right questions
- You write well and can turn complex detail into concise, structured explanations
- You pay close attention to detail and enjoy working as part of a team
R&D tax or advisory experience is a bonus but not essential.
What’s on offer
This is a chance to move from industry into specialist consultancy while still using your technical expertise. You’ll get structured training in UK R&D tax relief and a clear path towards owning client interviews, projects and full claim delivery. You’ll also see a wide variety of innovative businesses.
You don’t need to tick every box. If you have strong technical knowledge and enjoy communicating it, we’d like to hear from you.
