Lawyer – 15-Month Fixed-Term Contract

A Leading UK-authorised financial services firm is seeking a lawyer to join its London-based legal team, supporting international asset management and private banking businesses. The role combines transactional and advisory work and plays a key role in supporting business operations, regulatory compliance, and risk management across multiple business lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide transactional and advisory legal support, primarily to the asset management business, including drafting and negotiating client agreements and advising on regulatory and structural aspects of products and services.
  • Advise on UK financial services regulation and respond to general regulatory queries impacting products and services.
  • Work closely with Compliance on regulatory horizon scanning, impact assessments, business guidance, and implementation of regulatory change initiatives.
  • Support senior legal leadership on a wide range of matters, including litigation, mergers and acquisitions, and global projects, liaising with external counsel where required.
  • Assist with corporate governance matters, including drafting board and committee documentation.
  • Maintain accurate legal records and documentation systems.
  • Escalate material legal and regulatory issues appropriately.
  • Mentor and support junior legal team members.
  • Maintain up-to-date awareness of market developments, fintech innovation, and relevant legal and regulatory changes.
Key Requirements
  • Strong post-qualification experience in financial services, preferably in-house.
  • Proven experience negotiating and drafting financial services agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of UK financial services regulation, including FCA Handbook requirements (e.g. MiFID, COBS, CASS, PROD, SYSC, Consumer Duty, sustainability-related initiatives).
  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills with the ability to apply legal advice commercially.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex legal matters to both legal and non-legal stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Experience delivering legal or regulatory training.
