A major UK household-name general insurer is undergoing an exciting transformation — modernising its products, strengthening its capabilities and building a more forward-looking risk function. As part of this journey, we’re looking for an experienced Financial Risk Manager to join the Group Risk team with clear succession potential to Head of Financial Risk.
Working directly with the Head of Financial Risk, this role sits at the centre of the organisation and offers significant exposure to senior stakeholders across actuarial, underwriting, pricing and finance. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the business understands and manages its financial risks effectively while supporting smarter commercial decision-making.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone from a strong General Insurance background who wants to move beyond technical delivery and take on a role with strategic influence and long-term leadership potential.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide independent review and challenge of pricing and underwriting models and strategies
- Partner with actuarial, underwriting and finance teams to ensure robust methodologies and assumptions
- Monitor pricing and underwriting controls against risk appetite
- Assess pricing adequacy, risk selection and claims practices
- Identify emerging financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Support oversight of reserving processes and reserve adequacy
- Enhance financial risk frameworks, policies and governance
- Develop KRIs, dashboards and reporting for senior management and Board committees
- Provide risk input to new products, pricing initiatives and strategic decisions
- Strong experience in financial risk, actuarial, pricing or modelling within General Insurance
- Deep understanding of pricing, underwriting, reserving and capital management
- Experience reviewing or developing risk models and methodologies
- Ability to challenge constructively and influence senior stakeholders
- Someone motivated by the opportunity to grow into a senior risk leadership role
