Senior Manager – Office of the CFO

We’re partnering with a leading professional services firm in Manchester that is continuing to grow its Office of the CFO / outsourced finance offering. They are now looking to appoint an experienced Senior Manager to take ownership of a varied client portfolio and play a key role in shaping the delivery and direction of the team.

This is a senior, client-facing leadership role for a qualified accountant who wants to move beyond traditional compliance work and operate in a more commercial, advisory-focused environment. You will combine hands-on oversight of financial reporting with strategic input, helping clients improve performance, strengthen processes, and make better business decisions.

Alongside client delivery, you will lead and develop a team of Managers, Assistant Managers and junior staff, ensuring high-quality output, strong client service and continuous improvement across all engagements.

What you’ll be doing
  • Taking ownership of a portfolio of clients, ensuring delivery of high-quality management accounts, statutory accounts and financial reporting
  • Acting as a senior point of contact for key clients, building strong, trusted and long-term relationships
  • Reviewing financial information and providing clear commercial insight, challenge and recommendations
  • Overseeing budgeting, forecasting and cashflow reporting across client engagements
  • Managing audit liaison and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and frameworks
  • Leading, coaching and developing Managers, Assistant Managers and junior team members
  • Ensuring consistent delivery of work on time, on budget and to a high standard of quality
  • Supporting client onboarding and smooth transitions into outsourced finance / Office of the CFO services
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance client service and broaden advisory support
  • Working closely with other service lines to deliver joined-up solutions for clients
  • Supporting wider operational leadership and contributing to the ongoing growth of the team
About you
You will be a confident and technically strong finance professional with proven experience in a client-facing leadership role.

Essential experience:

  • ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Strong background in practice, ideally within Business Services, Accounts or Advisory
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients and leading client relationships
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including management accounts and statutory reporting
  • Experience reviewing work and leading teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Commercially aware and confident working with senior stakeholders
Desirable experience:
  • Exposure to outsourced finance or CFO Services environments
  • Experience with SME, mid-market or owner-managed clients
  • Familiarity with cloud accounting systems and modern finance tools
  • Involvement in advisory, transformation or process improvement projects
