Spotlight on our Inspirational LGBTQIA+ leaders – Therese Charles

At Broadgate, part of Trinnovo Group, we have been shining a spotlight on the inspirational LGBTQIA+ leaders in our community, highlighting their thoughts on the importance of Pride, what it means to them and how we can do more to empower this community in the workplace.

We have been sharing some of their impactful answers on our social channels throughout June, but want to take the message beyond simply highlighting the importance of Pride, but also share the stories and sharing the insights of our network of inspirational leaders, enabling our community to learn how we can do more to act as allies and advocates for our LGBTQIA+ community.

Therese Charles currently serves as the Director of Information Security and IT at ActionIQ. Therese also sits on a board of Directors for ISACA as a CISA and CDPSE. Within 5 years, Therese went from her role as an analyst to now being a Director of Information Security and IT for a leading Customer Data Platform company, owning the definition and execution of the security strategy and underlying policies.

What does Pride mean to you?

Being able to be unapologetically me and supporting those who may not feel they have the same ability to be who they truly are meant to be.

How can colleagues be allies in the workplace?

  • Provide a safe space for all your co-workers by not judging, see something, say something and educate yourself.
  • Try to address any potential unconscious bias. This can help eliminate the potential for unknowingly making someone feel unwelcome or judged. It is okay to make mistakes, but what we must do as ally’s is learn from those mistakes to do better next time.

What can businesses do to empower the LGBTQIA+ community?

  • Listen to their LGBTQIA+ community
  • Offer benefits if they are available that will help people from all walks of life
  • Put out educational materials in the office
  • Bring in speakers to talk to the entire org about diversity in the workplace

Who is your role model and why?

My stepmother. She was a strong, driven, and intelligent woman, who taught me what it was I wanted to emulate as I got older. She is who I strive to be, I hope I do well in her honor as I continue to grow and navigate through life.

Advice to your younger self:

Trust the process and have a little more fun.

At Trinnovo Group as part of our Pride campaign, we are raising money for Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI), a non-profit member-driven organisation that was founded in 2006. TENI has a vision for a world where all people, regardless of gender identity or expression, enjoy full acceptance, equality, and human rights.
