Q&A with Bobbi Pickard, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at bp

‘Businesses need to believe in what they’re doing and be brave.’

The origins of LBGTQIA+ History Month began in the US in 1994. The aim of LBGTQIA+ History Month has always been to ‘eliminate prejudice by educating people’. The event has had a linking theme since 2011, which tends to reflect broader society. It’s important to reflect on the past, celebrate present achievements and focus on what more can be done in the future to provide a safe environment for all.

We spoke with Bobbi Pickard, Diversity and Inclusion Manager at BP, and Co-Founder of the award-winning community, ‘Trans in the City.’ Bobbi discussed how there has certainly been a noticeable shift in acceptance for transgender people, particularly following the gender recognition act. However, due to the pandemic and other social implications, the transgender community has seen a slip back in acknowledgement and support.

We also spoke about Bobbi’s experience in the financial industry, as well as what organisations can do to improve diversity for the LGBTQIA+ community. Watch the full interview below:
