His experience spans across both Retail and Wholesale – from helping firms respond to Covid regulations, delivering mortgage rectifications to leading regulatory stress tests across the Asia Pacific region.

Together with his co-founder and a team comprised of some of the UK’s leading climate scientists and London School of Economics’ Grantham Research Institute, he’s now leading the development of a new Climate Risk analytics platform that will help Banks, Insurers and other businesses comply with incoming regulations using scientifically backed methods.

Justin Elks
Justin Elks is Managing Director of the Crowe UK consulting practice and is Crowe’s UK insurance sector and Enterprise Risk Management lead. He specialises in governance, risk, resilience and capital management, helping business to create sustainable solutions in a regulated environment. Justin has more than 25 years of experience providing designing, delivering, and leading practical, value-adding approaches, operating models, and functions. He has a passion for improving how the governance, processes and cultures of businesses work. Justin was recognised by InsuranceERM magazine as one of the most influential people in Enterprise Risk Management in Insurance across Europe.

Justin has held a number of senior leadership positions in insurance and financial services, including as Chief Risk Officer. He is an experienced board advisor and attendee. He has also served as a pension scheme trustee and as a non-executive director for not for profit firms and charities, including a period as interim board chairman.

Dr Maxine Nelson
Dr Maxine Nelson is a Senior Vice President at the GARP (Global Association of Risk Professionals) Risk Institute, GARP’s research and thought leadership arm, where she focusses on climate financial risk management. In her career, she has held senior banking roles where she was responsible for modelling and managing different financial risks, and for global capital planning. She also previously worked at the UK Financial Services Authority, where she was responsible for counter-party credit risk during the last financial crisis.

John Scott

John Scott is Head of Sustainability Risk for the Zurich Insurance Group. John leads the Group’s engagement on sustainability risk, both internally and externally as the way Zurich delivers its purpose and values.

For the last ten years, in his roles as CRO for Commercial Insurance and as Head of Sustainability Risk, John has increasingly focused on global risks, in particular climate change risk. His unique combination of previous roles and experiences in the oil & gas and chemicals industries, together with his involvement in many industry and Government organisations, has given him a deep understanding of the risks and opportunities that climate change presents to companies, governments and society at large.

John is on the Advisory Board to the World Economic Forum Global Risks Report and has contributed to every WEF Global Risk Report since 2005. He is also a member of the WEF Global Future Council on Frontier Risks and, in the UK, the Institute of Directors Sustainable Business Advisory Board.
